Get rid of those pesky streaks on your windows with these top cleaning tips to remove streaks from your windows.
1. Microfibre cloth
These days there doesn’t seem to be a household problem out there that microfibre cloths can’t solve, from cleaning your glasses to dusting your ornaments. And they can help with window streaks, too. Make sure your cloth is dry and dust-free and, with just a little elbow grease, your windows should be spick and span in no time.
You probably remember your grandparents cleaning everything with newspaper and while this might sound like old news (ahem), it still very much works today. Use normal black and white pages (steering clear of picture pull-outs) and you’ll be surprised at just how effective it can be. Wear gloves if you don’t want ink-stained hands and never use kitchen towel instead, as this can make the streaks even worse.
Give your chips a rest and use your vinegar on the windows instead! Another age-old cleaning trick is to use vinegar when cleaning windows – simply mix some white vinegar with warm water and spray it on before wiping off with a cloth and some elbow grease. While it might not be as effective as chemical cleaning products on the market, it’s a great option for those who are looking to keep their home cleaning natural.
Another environmentally friendly alternative to cleaning products is steam. Simply angling your kettle won’t work (and could be dangerous), so you’ll need to invest in a proper steam cleaner for the best results. Remember to read the instructions before use and if you’ve got kids then keep it out of their reach, as steam can easily burn if used recklessly.
5. Call a professional
If the streaks on your windows simply can’t be removed or they’re on the outside (and out of safe reach), it’s probably time to call in the professionals. Window cleaners will often clean your whole house for a relatively affordable price and if you like your new-found clean windows, then you could even make it a regular thing. Search online or in your local newspaper for more details.
6. All of the above
If you’ve got some particularly troublesome windows, there’s nothing wrong with trying all of these options to find the one that works for you and your windows.
